School District Volunteer Opportunities
Literacy 1st
Work with beginning readers and writers by providing one to one or small group help and attention for students. Training is provided along with specific directions from individual classroom teachers. Time commitment: One to two hours one morning per week. Grades 1 and 2.
The Literacy first program is funded, in part, by grants from the SLP Sunrise Rotary and Park Nicollet Foundation.
Math Volunteers
If you like mathematics, consider becoming a math volunteer. Join the teacher and students once per week and work on the day's lesson by helping students as they practice using math concepts. Time commitment is one hour per week. Grades 2-6
Picture Person: (Art Appreciation Volunteer)
Lead a classroom discussion about a work of art and the artist. Complete training and materials are provided. The time commitment is only 30-60 minutes once a month. Grades K-6
ELL (English Language Learner) Volunteer
Reinforce vocabulary as students learn English as a second language. Training provided. Time commitment is 30 minutes per student once a week. There are also Adult ELL classes in need of volunteers. Adult class times are: M-Th 9-noon or T and Th evenings from 6-8:30. Minimum time commitment for is 1 hour a week. Grades K- 12 and Adult
JH Band
Dust off your band instrument and join the Junior High Band one or more times a week for a class period. The students enjoy having adult musicians play with them as they work to master their instruments. The adults have a lot of fun too! Minimum time commitment is 1 class period a week.
Classroom V.I.P.
Work in a classroom by assisting the teacher. Once a week you can listen to a child read, help reinforce basic skills, tutor, and assist the teacher in a wide variety of ways. There are also opportunities to work with high school students who need extra help especially in advanced math. Time commitment is about 1 hour a week. Grades K-12.

Great Volunteer Opportunity For High School Students!
Student Volunteers Wanted for City Commissions
Become actively involved in your community, share ideas, and learn about city government by volunteering as a high school student representative on one of the following commissions:
- Human Rights Commission: third Tuesday each month at 7 p.m.
- Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission: third Wednesday each month at 7 p.m.
- Planning Commission: first & third Wednesday each month at 6 p.m.
- Police Advisory Commission: first Wednesday every other month at 7 p.m.
- Telecommunications Advisory Commission: approx. 4 times a year

School Group Hike Assistant at Westwood Hills Nature Center
Nature lovers can assist the naturalists as they conduct educational programs for Kindergarten and first- grade students. Share the joy of nature with children and spend time at the Nature Center. Training is provided. The time commitment is about 2 1/2 hours a week in the morning or afternoon on the day of your choice plus occasional training sessions for specific nature units.
Maintenance Volunteer at Westwood Hills Nature Center
Perfect job for someone who enjoys fixing, building and taking care of things. The job duties will vary by season and may include building educational materials and Halloween party props, maintaining bird feeders, planting trees and flowers, eliminating non-native species, watering, etc. The time commitment is 2 to 3 hours a week; the day of the week is flexible.
Animal Care Assistants at Westwood Hills Nature Center
Take care of captive animals including reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and a bird on Tuesdays. Duties include changing waters, feeding, handling animals and cleaning cages. Training is provided. The time commitment is 1-1 ˝ hours, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. (if this interests you, but Tuesday does not work, please contact the Vol. Office and ask to be put on the animal care list)
Halloween Party Helpers
Have fun and volunteer at Westwood Hills Nature Center Halloween party the evenings of Oct. 16 and Oct. 17. Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs at this fun natured themed party for children ages 18 months to 10 years old. You can volunteer one evening or both. Call the Volunteer Office above to be put on the volunteer mailing list and receive signup information for this nature themed Halloween event!
Special One-time Event Volunteers Needed
Want to volunteer, but can't commit to a regular schedule? Become an official St. Louis Park Special Event Volunteer! After you complete an application and background check, you will be put on a list of volunteers who are notified about events like Halloween Parties, School Science Fairs, Parktacular, and other fun activities in St. Louis Park. You will be notified about 1x opportunities and can volunteer depending on your time and interest! Time commitment: between 2 and 4 hours per event.

THE H.O.M.E. CHORE PROGRAM HELPS LOCAL SENIOR CITIZENS:
Get involved in your neighborhood! The H.O.M.E. program provides home chore services for seniors. Help is needed with snow shoveling in the winter and lawn and garden chores in spring, summer and fall, as well as household chores year-round. H.O.M.E. has clients in many neighborhoods who can use your help; volunteering even one time can make a difference! This volunteer opportunity is suitable for individuals, couples, families, groups, and students over age 14. Minimum time commitment: 1 hr.
