Literacy 1st
Literacy First: Work with beginning readers in the classroom under the teacher’s direction. Training is provided. Time commitment: One to two hours one morning per week. Grades 1 and 2.

Read 180 Volunteers
This structured reading intervention program targets students in grades 2-12 who need extra help. Volunteers assist by listening to students read, reading to students and helping with worksheets. Minimum time commitment is 1-2 hours a week.

Resource Speaker
Enrich the classroom curriculum by sharing information about your hobby, career, special interest, travel or other countries and cultures with students. The time commitment varies by presentation and age of students but is typically no more than about 30 minutes per presentation. Grades K-12.

Volunteer ELL (English Language Learner) Volunteer
Reinforce vocabulary as students from other countries learn English. Training provided. Time commitment is 30 minutes per student once a week. Grades 1-5.

JH Band
Dust off your band instrument and join the Junior High Band. The students enjoy having adult musicians play with them as they work to master their instruments. The adults have a lot of fun too! Minimum time commitment is 1 class period a week.

Classroom V.I.P.
Work in a classroom by assisting the teacher. Listen to a child read, help reinforce basic skills, tutor, and generally help in a wide variety of ways. Time commitment is about 1 hour a week. Grades K-12.

Picture Person
Art Appreciation Volunteer
Lead a classroom discussion about a work of art and the artist. Complete training and materials are provided. The time commitment is only 30-60 minutes once a month. Grades K-6

Math Volunteer
If you like mathematics, consider becoming a math volunteer. Join the teacher once per week and work on the day’s lesson by helping students as they practice using math concepts. Various grade levels. Time commitment is one hour per week.

SCHOOL GROUP HIKE ASSISTANT
Assist the naturalists as they conduct educational programs for students. Share the joy of nature with children. Training is provided. The time commitment is about 2 1/2 hours a week in the morning or afternoon on the day of your choice.

MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEER
This is the perfect job for someone who enjoys fixing, building and taking care of things. The job duties vary by season and may include building educational materials and Halloween party props, maintaining bird feeders, planting trees and flowers, eliminating non-native species, watering, etc. Time commitment is 2-3 hours a week.

HALLOWEEN PARTY HELPERS
Have fun and volunteer at Westwood’s Halloween party the evenings of Oct. 21 and Oct. 22. Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs at this fun nature-themed party for children ages 18 months to 10 years old. You can volunteer one evening or both; help is also needed several days before the party for set-up. Call or e-mail the Volunteer Office to be put on the volunteer list and receive sign-up information for this nature-themed Halloween event!

SERVE ON A CITY COMMISSION!

THE H.O.M.E. CHORE PROGRAM HELPS LOCAL SENIOR CITIZENS:
In St. Louis Park, we work with the H.O.M.E. program to help senior citizens with snow shoveling and other chores. You can help them remain independent in their homes. This is an ideal program for families, couples and individuals ages 14 and older. To volunteer or get more information contact Debbie Ross, H.O.M.E., (952) 888-5530 or e-mail d.ross@ seniorcommunity.org and volunteer to help a senior in your area.
