Our Mission
Kids’ Place works in cooperation with the families, schools, and the community of St. Louis Park to provide a high quality, professional child care program that is academically enriching, fun and safe for all children.
Our goal is to provide a safe, caring environment which allows your child the opportunity to learn and grow among friends. Whether your family has an infant, preschooler, or school-age child, we understand your need to know that your child is well cared for during the day. Staff
Kids’ Place retains a professional, long-term staff. In many classrooms, we have teachers who have been with us for 10 years or longer.
Kids’ Place teachers are hired for their education and proven experience working with children. They are expected to demonstrate sound judgment, dependability, responsibility, and the ability to create safe, nurturing environments which reflects respect for all children. Criminal background checks are required for all newly hired St. Louis Park Schools employees.
All staff members are required to participate in continuing education classes throughout the year. Topics include: safety and supervision, child protection mandates, behavior management strategies, honoring diversity, technology in the classroom, planning activities and conflict resolution. Kids’ Place teachers are required to maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications.
Maximum Student-to-Staff Ratios by Age Group
Infants: 4:1
Toddlers 7:1
Preschool 10:1
Kindergarten 12:1
Grades 1-6 15:1
These ratios reflect maximums. Most times, student to staff ratios are lower. Our priority is to be certain there are enough staff in the classrooms to best meet the needs of the children.
Best Practices
Kids’ Place is sponsored by the Community Education department of St. Louis Park Public Schools. Like all other school district programs, we are governed by the policies and guidelines of our school board. As our guide for programming and best practices, Kids’ Place has also adopted the Minnesota Early Childhood Indicators of Progress for our early childhood classrooms and the Council on Accreditations’ Standards for Afterschool Programs for school-age classrooms.. We provide choices for creative, social, and physical growth through a wide-range of enjoyable and meaningful activities and experiences.
Eligibility
St. Louis Park Public Schools offers age-appropriate child care programs for children ages 6 weeks through students in grade 6, and who, additionally, are not older than 12. Eligibility ends when students complete the summer after grade 6 or the session before the child turns 13, whichever comes first. Children who turn 13 during a school year or a summer session will not be eligible to participate during the school year or summer session in which their 13th birthday occurs.
